New DOT Rules for Airline Advertising!
New DOT Rules Take Effect: Airlines must now advertise taxes in their airfare ads!
As of January 26, 2012 you will notice there are no more $59 seat sales advertised. Why? Because new DOT requirements mean airlines must now advertise all mandatory taxes and fees in the advertised fare. Fares may still be shown one way with taxes if the ticket can be purchased one way but if a ticket can only be purchased as a round trip ticket, you’ll see the total for all legs including taxes!
And better yet, airlines are now required to have a prominent link from their homepages to a page showing all their optional fees for things like checked bags and change fees.
It’s a good thing!
